Define the cutting-assist gas separately from the machine pneumatic supply. Use the cutting-machine maker’s requirements for the actual material, process and duty.

Confirm with the equipment maker

  • What is the cutting-machine model, and which maker document defines its gas requirements?
  • Which demand is cutting-assist gas and which is pneumatic air? What gas is required for each?
  • Which materials, thicknesses, nozzles and cutting modes will be used?
  • What minimum pressure is required at each machine connection, and is it gauge or absolute?
  • What are sustained and peak gas flows, their reference conditions and peak duration?
  • What pressure dew point, particle and oil limits does the maker specify?
  • Which machines run together, and what hose/pipe routes, electrical supply and backup are available?

Common sizing mistakes

  • Laser power and the application name do not determine one operating pressure or air flow.
  • Do not add cutting-gas and pneumatic-air flows unless their medium, reference basis and system path are compatible.
